India Today - - YOUNG YEARNERS - by Mona Ramavat

Having been involved in community work since high school, Chaitanya set up Passionate Foundation ( PF) in 2007, to involve youth in community work. In 2010, PF adopted Hyderabad’s Bowenpally Government School with the idea of making schooling a better experience for its students. “Approximately 70 per cent Indian children study in government schools. From lack of qualified teachers to outdated syllabi, infrastructure and nutrition—there are several problems with such schools,” he says. Currently, they work with 10 schools. The state provides rice and sambhar for mid-day meals at these schools. PF has roped in the Hyderabad Marriott to add an egg, a banana and a vegetable curry for every child at two of these schools. PF is also involved in creating better amenities at the schools, from well-equipped washrooms to computer labs. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME At his alma mater, Abhyasa Residential Public School in Toopran village, about 50 km from Hyderabad, Chaitanya was involved in community service activities like organising HIV/AIDS awareness and de-addiction camps. ROAD AHEAD Involve as many government schools in Andhra Pradesh as possible.
