Outrageous Decision

India Today - - MAIL -

The decision of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to grant remission to those accused of assassinating former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi immediately after the Supreme Court commuted their death sentence to life imprisonment is absolutely shocking (“Getting Away with Murder”, March 3). It will be a national shame if foreign nationals walk free from a country after killing its leader. NDAand UPA, who were both in power from time to time at the Centre, are squarely to be blamed for the inordinate delay in the clemency petition which has been cited as a major ground for commuting their death sentence. If the accused are set free, it will not only send a wrong signal but will also be a huge injustice to the 17 innocent people who were killed along with the former prime minister in the bombing.
