The lengths to which Congress goes to insulate its vice-president from attack can sometimes border on the ridiculous. On February 28, Rahul Gandhi was to meet local journalists in Lucknow at a three-star hotel near the airport. With Rahul delayed by an hour, Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken ensured the plastic wrappers on all water bottles for the meeting were removed. Why? Because the bottles were from the Sahara Q Shop and TV screens throughout the hotel were broadcasting Sahara Chairman Subrata Roy’s arrest.
