First-time vot­ers in Haryana’s Sonepat district are be­ing of­fered the chance to ac­quire a driv­ing li­cence along with their voter iden­tity cards. Deputy Com­mis­sioner Samir Pal Srow says this is to en­cour­age young­sters to reg­is­ter as vot­ers. Be­sides this, they will also be el­i­gi­ble for a free meal at ear­marked lo­cal eater­ies af­ter cast­ing their vote. It must be work­ing: State Chief Elec­toral Of­fi­cer Shrikant Wal­gad said as many as 80,000 young Haryan­vis had reg­is­tered un­til March 9, tak­ing ad­van­tage of the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion’s on­go­ing drive.
