Product designer Gunjan Gupta always takes inspiration from the past but her designs come with a most compelling stamp of modern outlook. The Delhi-based maverick behind Studio Wrap draws ideas from everyday life and treats them as the guiding light when working on her India-inspired line of home products. That she lives in details and knows how to give a mundane-looking material a different spin is evident from the way she uses items such as bartans, gaddas, boris, matkas and pipes to make utilitarian furniture. The case in point is the Pipe Bar (see below) which intelligently interprets the paradoxical material and craft culture of India. Part of her recently introduced ‘Past Modern 2014’ collection, it is made out of MS pipes stacked together and gives a new lease of life to the raw material. Using her expertise and know-how, the designer has added a table to the drinking station where you can mix drinks and serve them and can also stock up all your liquor inside the pipes themselves.
