THE WEDDING PLAYER

India Today - - SIMPLY KOLKATA - MANOJ AGARWAL

Forty-six-year-old Manoj Agarwal’s newly opened store on Park Street, looks like a regal Rajasthani haveli. Chandeliers, typical Rajasthani furniture, a winding staircase and a rich earthy ochre give this 1,500 sq ft store a feeling of being in a Rajput era fairytale.

His focus is bridal wear but he also does ethnic menswear for grooms since he believes “the marrying couple should look coordinated”. Fabrics used are handloom weaves, silks and tussars which undergo intricate beading or embroidery by hand to achieve a finished and elegant look.

A lot of the motifs bear a

Rajasthani influence depicting floral or animal motifs, princesses or wedding rituals. The colour story for bridal wear includes a lot of traditional reds, pinks and oranges but also has a few offbeat pastels and blacks.
