Cur­rently in its twelfth year, the Mahin­dra Sanatkada Lucknow Fes­ti­val is a com­pre­hen­sive mela, featuring dance and mu­sic, film screen­ings, book launches, as well as a food fes­ti­val. This year, it will be held from Fe­bru­ary 3-7 at Baradari, Qaiser Bagh, and will fea­ture per­for­mances by Ta­j­dar Ju­naid and Shahid Parvez, lec­tures by Ir­fan Habib, Aman Nath and Ger­ard da Cunha, as well as book re­leases by Nadeem Has­nain and Shazi Za­man. Ev­ery year, the fes­ti­val is or­gan­ised around a theme that is his­tor­i­cally rel­e­vant for Lucknow. This year, it will fo­cus on ‘Lucknow ki Reha’ish’, or the ar­chi­tec­ture and life­styles of homes in the city. Sanatkada will also be re­leas­ing a cof­fee-table book ti­tled Reha’ish: At Home in Lucknow, which ex­am­ines the ar­chi­tec­tural and so­ci­o­log­i­cal evo­lu­tion of Lucknow’s homes from the 18th cen­tury on­ward.ak­istanT­hearmy­book­spokesper­son­willex­am­ine trends such as the re­fine­ment of Nawabi hous­ing and the colo­nial con­cep­tions of space.
