“I harbour no ambitions of becoming the prime minister of the country... People who stay away from Delhi are happier.”

AKHILESH YADAV, speaking at an event in Lucknow, downplayed his newfound political credibility among the chattering classes. Having proved his bona fides by outsmarting the Samajwadi Party’s wily old guard and taking control, it is his coat-tails on which a grateful Congress is riding. Should the SP and Congress win in UP, would Akhilesh become a national figure? He is too canny to say.
