Fash­ion com­mu­ni­ca­tion is one of the new­est and most ex­cit­ing av­enues in the lifestyle in­dus­try. “Com­mu­ni­ca­tion by those who have a for­mal ed­u­ca­tion in the field is valu­able, not just to spark in­ter­est, but to in­form, guide and im­prove the gen­eral un­der­stand­ing of fash­ion,” says Sathya Saran, con­sult­ing ed­i­tor, Harper Collins Pub­lisher In­dia, and vis­it­ing fac­ulty, NIFT, Mum­bai.

What you study Fash­ion jour­nal­ism, vis­ual mer­chan­dis­ing, ex­hi­bi­tion and dis­play de­sign, graphic de­sign, styling, photography, ad­ver­tis­ing and pub­lic re­la­tions.

Ca­reer Prospects: “Stu­dents can get into fash­ion writ­ing, jour­nal­ism, PR for fash­ion houses and de­sign­ers, ad­ver­tis­ing, fash­ion photography, and styling,” says Saran.

Skills Re­quired: “Writ­ing ef­fec­tively with an abil­ity to com­mu­ni­cate fash­ion ideas is paramount,” she says.
