An I-T of­fi­cer can con­duct a search with­out dis­clos­ing the rea­sons for it. The of­fi­cial is not an­swer­able to the I-T tri­bunal or the as­sessee be­ing searched

The search can only be chal­lenged in a high court or the Supreme Court

En­try level of­fi­cers, ranked As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner, can con­duct searches


An I-T of­fi­cer had to dis­close the rea­sons for a search to the as­sessee, as well as to se­nior of­fi­cials. All searches had to be ap­proved by the CBDT board

The search could be chal­lenged at the I-T tri­bunal level

Only of­fi­cers ranked Joint Di­rec­tor or above could con­duct searches
