“India, with a population of 1.3 billion, is not a part of the UNSC. Over 1.7 billion people live in the Islamic world but they too are not a part of the UNSC. This is not a healthy sign.”
The Turkish president RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN found himself on safe, incontrovertibly popular ground by expressing support for India’s desire to be part of the UN Security Council. But there was a reminder that Turkey too may have ambitions to be a global power, as indicated by Erdogan’s much less well-received suggestion that Turkey could help mediate between India and Pakistan on Kashmir.
