A Sassy Spoonful

India Today - - CITY BUZZ | LISTINGS -  by aditi pai

If you’ve spent afternoons sipping lemonades and cocktails at their Bandra restaurant, you can now do the same in your own city with Mumbai’s chic restaurant Sassy Spoon opening its first outlet here. The décor is casual and attractive with pink and white upholstery, bird cage lanterns and books stacked up near the ceiling. The outdoor section is the biggest draw, with open brick walls and flowering plants lined balconies, it lends a feel of a European street café. Try the spiked very berry khatta with mulberries and orange and a dash of kala khatta; the Sassy margarita comes with innovative flavours of apple mint with kokum and tequila and the pani puri margarita has the tangy flavours of masala pani. The cocktails menu is extensive, probably among the most innovative ones in the city with flavours of vanilla vodka, soya cream, coffee liqueur and fresh fruits meeting a range of spirits. Check out the flavoured raspberry or passion fruit beer if you want a dash of sweetness in your lager. The menu, too, brings dishes that reflect and interesting play of flavours such as the green apple and smoked scarmoza soup, the Sassy caesar salad with a wasabi dressing, prawn pakodas and Goan sausages with bell peppers and potatoes. Their all-day breakfast is also a draw with a caramelised coffee French toast and a mulgapudi meets egg omelette dish. Wrap up your meal with the sticky toffee pudding and the dark chocolate and basil fondant.
