Signature moments in modern art invoke a sense of disquiet; to understand modern art is to understand the value of imagination. Saffronart’s upcoming Summer Online Auction is the perfect venue to marvel at the abstractions of the south Asian subcontinent’s finest modernists. The auction that features a robust selection of artists from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will be held on June 6-7. The sale features key pieces of modern and contemporary art from eminent private collections, including Falling Figure by Tyeb Mehta (estimated at `2-3 crore). Mehta’s Falling Figure series of paintings are compositions of fractured planes, distorted limbs and agonised faces, falling into an undefined abyss. Also featured is Subodh Gupta’s Sat Samunder Par (estimated at `60-80 lakh), part of a series of large scale works addressing the phenomenon of migration in modern times. Other highlights of the auction include works from Valay Shende, Tayeba Begum Lipi and Rashid Rana.
