Well, despite the euphoria, the Labour party didn’t win the snap UK election on June 8. But if ever a defeat felt like victory, this was it. A massive lead in the opinion polls persuaded Prime Minister Theresa May to seek to enhance her majority by calling for elections, only to wind up with a hung parliament. Much of Corbyn’s surprising ‘success’ has been attributed to marshalling the votes of young people through online activism. May’s Tories spent over Rs 80 crore on negative Facebook advertising alone but were outdone by the sophistication of Corbyn’s own social media messaging.
