SNAPSEED:

This Google app offers a range of editing tools and filters that can be used to crop images or rotate them, to adjust vertical and horizontal perspectiv­es, to expand images and much more. Popular filters like Glamour Glow, Drama, Grainy Film and Noir offer one-touch enhancemen­ts. There is also a special editing tool for faces that can be used for skin smoothing and to increase eye clarity—not to mention choosing pale, fair, medium and dark skin colours.

This app lets you add text, stickers and overlays to your pictures, as well as draw on them and clean up blemishes. Its Enhance option is like autocorrec­t; you can choose between hi-def, scenery, food, portrait and night. VSCO:

This app allows you to capture, edit and share images. It features editing tools such as Exposure, Contrast, Crop, Sharpen, etc., as well as Instagram-like filters such as M3 for Mood, M5 for Fade and B1 for Classic. The free filters initially available are limited, but one also has the option of purchasing more. Also available is a VSCO X app, which offers 100+ presets along with exclusive member-only tools, for an annual subscripti­on of $19.99.

ADOBE LIGHTROOM:

This app lets you capture images in automatic, profession­al and high dynamic modes. It offers a host of manual editing options, but the highlight of this app has to be the wide range of presets available, categorise­d into Creative, Color, B&W, Detail, Effect and Camera. Each preset has five to six modes. iOS only
