Nitish Kumar has maintained a studied silence on the CBI raids on his ally, the RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav. The CBI has filed corruption cases against Lalu, wife Rabri Devi and son and deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav in a 2006 hotel bribery case. Nitish’s four spokespersons—Sanjay Singh, Neeraj Kumar, Rajeev Ranjan and Ajay Alok—have more than made up for his silence with a barrage of verbal attacks seeking Tejashwi’s “clarification”, a thinly disguised call for his resignation. It’s a repeat of an earlier strategy. The foursome had done the same to Jitan Ram Manjhi when Nitish wanted him out as CM in 2015. Manjhi quit before his trust vote. Remains to be seen if Tejashwi will blink.
