Elsewhere in the country, the Congress may be a study in gloom. But in Rajasthan, state party president Sachin Pilot is bringing the party within fighting distance of the ruling BJP. Pilot managed to get Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to tour flood-hit areas of the state, wrote to the prime minister to release aid, highlighted farmers’ suicides and managed to get some MLAs who had pledged support to BJP presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind to vote for Congress candidate Meira Kumar. Rahul seems to think the young PCC chief is doing a good job. Perhaps why Pilot’s chief rival, Ashok Gehlot, has been asked to focus on Gujarat.
