How it Be­gan Of­fer­ing cus­tomised fon­dant cakes and cup­cakes with dif­fer­ent sugar dec­o­ra­tions, D-li­ciouS has quite a fol­low­ing on In­sta­gram and Face­book. Launched in 2010, it was the baby of Chandigarh girl Dev­ina Soni who com­pleted her MBA from Pan­jab Uni­ver­sity in 2010. She says, “I launched D-li­ciouS right af­ter my col­lege. We started do­ing choco­lates for wed­dings and soon grad­u­ated to cakes within a year. Af­ter do­ing some part-time cour­ses, I ven­tured fully into cakes, cup­cakes and desserts.” To­day D-li­ciouS spe­cialises in fon­dant cakes for var­i­ous oc­ca­sions—right from the bridal shower to wed­ding in­vi­ta­tions to the wed­ding cake.

Wed­ding Cakes D-li­ciouS gets max­i­mum busi­ness from wed­ding or­ders. Their wed­ding cakes are usu­ally in­spired by the colour of the decor at the venue. Soni says, “Some clients want their en­gage­ment cakes to show their jour­ney of love. Most wed­ding cakes are three-tiered, prefer­ably white with red, golden and pink flow­ers with cute sparkly top­pers.” Soni is mostly given a free hand by cou­ples as they trust her aes­thetic sense.

Then And Now This baker has def­i­nitely seen a se­ries of changes over the years. Talk­ing more about the ris­ing de­mand of ‘sim­ple yet el­e­gant cakes’, she says, “Peo­ple now want cakes which are low on sugar con­tent. They pre­fer but­ter cream cakes with a rus­tic feel. Naked cakes with a vin­tage vibe are the in thing.”
