India discovers potential of cloud with Cloudconnect
CloudConnect, a comprehensive conference-cum-exhibition that focused on the entire ecosystem of the cloud, held between May24 -25 in Bengaluru, saw eminent professionals from the industry discuss the role of the cloud as an important business enabler. The speakers discussed the role of cloud as a game changer in an emerging country like India. With four keynotes, 65+ speaker sessions, three parallel conference sessions, real world workshops, panel discussions and cloud expo, CloudConnect proved to be the most promising event on cloud computing in India. In a session titled, ‘Architecting cloud infrastructures for Big Data Challenges,’ Chidambaran Kollengode, Director – Cloud Computing, Nokia, talked about Hadoop as an open source paradigm. He discussed out of the box techniques for solving Big Data challenges. He also gave real-world examples of Hadoop implementation in organizations he has worked with.
Vamsicharan Mudiam Strategy Leader, Cloud Computing
Service, IBM India/South Asia
Delivering a keynote session on the topic ‘SmartCloud - Directions 2012. Rethink IT. Rethink Business,’ Vamsicharan Mudiam, Strategy Leader, Cloud Computing Service, IBM India/South Asia discussed how cloud computing has changed the way we think about technology, economies of scale and innovation. He said that organizations are primarily looking at cloud because of its ability to optimize and make IT flexible and enable revenue generation. Mudiam also discussed how IBM has leveraged cloud to achieve business objectives.

Delivering a keynote session on the topic ‘Converging business requirements and the cloud’ at day one of CloudConnect event, Eric Yu, President, Huawei Enterprise said cloud as a concept helps in making life better for CIOs as it helps in addressing two of the biggest challenges IT is facing today — preventing information leakage and reducing power consumption. He discussed how organizations can build an open environment of cloud and deliver the demands of their business. He answered several questions like ‘ Which applications should be shifted to cloud?’, ‘How secure is cloud?’, ‘ Which cloud (private, public or hybrid cloud) should be adopted?’ and ‘ Who to partner with?’

In an interesting keynote session at day two of CloudConnect, P Sridhar Reddy, Chairman and MD, CtrlS, busted some common myths about the cloud computing technology.

Delivering a session titled ‘How Indian SMBs can transform themselves using the cloud,’ Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head of iON, TCS said cloud is the best technology for SMBs as the whole model is on OPEX than CAPEX, which improves an SMB’s capability to conserve cash and focus on growth. Ramaswamy also shared several interesting examples of how SMBs can use cloud to their advantage. In a session titled ‘Moving to the Cloud: Choose what works for you,’ Jayabalan Subramanian, CTO and Co-Founder, Netmagic addressed the common problem faced by many organizations while considering cloud computing — choosing the right model. He shared in detail how enterprises can evaluate which cloud model works best for their business.
N Nataraj Global CIO, Hexaware
“Every organization should come up with its own cloud deployment strategy. In her keynote session at day two of the event, Anna Gong, Vice President - Cloud, Virtualization and Service Automation, Asia Pacific, CA Technologies discussed the impact of Consumerization of IT on cloud computing.
KP Unnikrishnan Marketing Director, Asia Pacific, Brocade
In an insightful session on the topic ‘Efficient cloud networks for better economics,’ KP Unnikrishnan, Marketing Director - Asia Pacific, Brocade discussed the role of true Ethernet Fabric in allowing data center teams to create efficient data center networks.
