77 per­cent of In­dian users use mo­bile for so­cial me­dia

The num­ber of so­cial me­dia users in ur­ban In­dia reached 62 mil­lion by De­cem­ber 2012, and it is es­ti­mated to reach 66 mil­lion by June 2013, ac­cord­ing to a re­port on So­cial Me­dia in In­dia, by the In­ter­net and Mo­bile As­so­ci­a­tion of In­dia (IAMAI) and IMRB. Ac­cord­ing to the re­port, about 74 per­cent of all ac­tive In­ter­net users in ur­ban In­dia use so­cial me­dia.

The re­port finds that of the so­cial me­dia users, 34 per­cent are from the top 8 met­ros while 35 per­cent of the to­tal users are from small towns of pop­u­la­tion up to 5 lakh.The re­port fur­ther finds that the high­est pro­por­tion of so­cial me­dia us­age was ob­served among the de­mo­graphic seg­ments of “Young Men” and “Col­lege Go­ing Stu­dents”, with 84 per­cent and 82 per­cent pen­e­tra­tion lev­els re­spec­tively.
