By deploying an integrated security solution from Websense, QuEST Global has enhanced its security posture through improved controls and monitoring of business critical data

Aleading engineering services company, QuEST Global, helps its clients cut product development costs, shorten lead times, extend capacity and maximize engineering resources availability by providing support across the complete product life cycle from design and modeling through analysis, prototyping, automation, data documentation, instrumentation and controls, embedded systems development, manufacturing support and vendor management. The firm has more than 4,200 professionals with global delivery centers across India, U.S., U.K., Spain, Italy, Australia and Singapore.

Working in niche engineering domains like aerospace, energy and oil & gas, QuEST provides engineering solutions to competing Fortune 100 customers in these verticals. Needless to say, data security is a prime concern for these customers and they impose strict regulations on security of their data. In addition, the engineering services provided by QuEST are subjected to Export Control laws of various governments as well.

COMPLEX SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

While running 15 customer data centers and more than 25 delivery locations, enforcing compliance turned out to be a complex challenge. With increasing customer demands on security, the firm realized the importance of an automated security solution that could help implement security controls efficiently. The need of the hour was a solution that would help the company with centralized security policy management. Additionally, the solution had to be flexible to be adopted for varied security requirements imposed by customers.

“We were faced with some unique compliance requirements from one of our customers. For example, e-mails should be allowed only to specific domains. Additionally, e-mails containing design-related information should be stripped for certain category of users and domains. This introduced a new layer of complexity to our security requirements,” states Sumeet Arora, VP – IT for QuEST.

To address these issues, the firm deployed Websense Triton, an integrated security solution that ensures data loss prevention apart from providing web and e-mail security. Today, the firm has complete visibility and control over the type of data being exchanged. “The scalability of the Websense solution has helped us roll out the solution to all our global locations. Today, we get complete visibility in the data being exchanged at each of the delivery locations. This has helped increase the confidence of our customers in our data security controls and has paved the way for future business opportunities,“states Jayakrishnan Menon, Manager – Server Systems and Datacenter for QuEST.

“Information Security is an ongoing activity and getting ahead of the curve to proactively mitigate risks is key for our business growth. Websense has effectively helped us align IT strategy to support business strategy,” concludes Arora.
