Out-of-turn promotion for Srinagar CRPF hero

Mail Today - - NEWS -

CRPF constable Raghunath Ghait (27) from Nandura in Maharashtra, who has been hailed as a hero by the force, will get an out-of-turn promotion.

Ghait on Monday subverted a terror attack at Karan Nagar area in Srinagar when he noticed two suspected suicide attackers roaming around his camp carrying AK-47s.

Ghait, who was deployed at the observation post, fired at the terrorists and thwarted the attack. “In principle, we have taken a decision to grant this courageous constable out-of-turn promotion,” CRPF D-G RR Bhatnagar told INDIA TODAY TV. He will be writing to the Home ministry to seek sanction for clearance of the decision.

Sources said the force expects a speedy clearance of the file. A formal announcement would be made once the green signal is granted from top. Ghait joined as constable in the force in 2014. In the normal course of promotion, he would have to wait for another 10 years to be head constable.
