Wawrinka loses to World No. 259

THREE-TIME Grand Slam cham­pion Stan Wawrinka blew a one-set lead to fall 4-6, 6-3, 62 to un­fan­cied Dutch­man Tal­lon Griek­spoor in a first-round shock at the Rotterdam Open on Tues­day. The Swiss fifth seed slumped to an­other sur­prise de­feat by an out­sider, af­ter los­ing in the Aus­tralian Open sec­ond round to Ten­nys Sand­gren and in last week’s Sofia Open semi-fi­nals to Bos­nian Mirza Ba­sic. The 32-year-old Wawrinka is strug­gling to re­gain top form af­ter a pair of sum­mer knee op­er­a­tions.

TAMIL Nadu beat Ma­nipur 2-1 to lift their maiden ti­tle in the 23rd edi­tion of the Se­nior Womens Na­tional Foot­ball Cham­pi­onship in Cuttack on Wed­nes­day. Tamil Nadu cre­ated his­tory by be­com­ing cham­pi­ons in their first-ever fi­nal with In­du­mathi scor­ing the opener in the 3rd minute while In­drani made it 2-0 in the 40th. Ratan­bala scored the lone goal for Ma­nipur in the 57th. In­du­mathi was also ad­judged the Player of the Fi­nal as well as the Tour­na­ment for her su­perla­tive per­for­mances. Tamil Nadu took the lead through In­du­mathi in the open­ing min­utes.
