Af­ter a decade, IIFA re­turns to Bangkok

THE 19th In­ter­na­tional In­dian Film and Academy (IIFA) Week­end and Awards will be held in the Thai Cap­i­tal city of Bangkok from June 22 to 24 this year, it was an­nounced in a press con­fer­ence at a Delhi five-star on Thurs­day.

The three-day week­end will see star-stud­ded ac­tiv­i­ties meant to pop­u­larise Hindi cin­ema in a foreign coun­try as ev­ery year, be­sides fo­rums on film trade and trends, show­cas­ing of cin­ema mem­o­ra­bilia and events high­light­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal causes and women’s em­pow­er­ment.

This is the sec­ond time Bangkok will play host to IIFA Awards af­ter 2008. The grand fi­nalé on June 24 will be the awards cer­e­mony to be held at Bangkok’s pres­ti­gious Siam Ni­ramit The­atre, a sym­bol of Thai­land’s cul­ture and her­itage.

The evening of the fi­nalé prom­ises to be a gala af­fair fea­tur­ing per­for­mances by sev­eral stars in­clud­ing Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ran­bir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Cho­pra, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani among oth­ers. The award cer­e­mony of June 24 will be hosted by Karan Jo­har and Riteish Desh­mukh while the pop­u­lar mu­si­cal event IIFA Rocks will be hosted by Ayush­mann Khur­rana and Kar­tik Aaryan. This year, IIFA will col­lab­o­rate with UN En­vi­ron­ment to launch a campaign ‘Beat Plas­tic Pol­lu­tion’, to be presided by Dia Mirza.
