After a decade, IIFA returns to Bangkok
THE 19th International Indian Film and Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards will be held in the Thai Capital city of Bangkok from June 22 to 24 this year, it was announced in a press conference at a Delhi five-star on Thursday.
The three-day weekend will see star-studded activities meant to popularise Hindi cinema in a foreign country as every year, besides forums on film trade and trends, showcasing of cinema memorabilia and events highlighting environmental causes and women’s empowerment.
This is the second time Bangkok will play host to IIFA Awards after 2008. The grand finalé on June 24 will be the awards ceremony to be held at Bangkok’s prestigious Siam Niramit Theatre, a symbol of Thailand’s culture and heritage.
The evening of the finalé promises to be a gala affair featuring performances by several stars including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani among others. The award ceremony of June 24 will be hosted by Karan Johar and Riteish Deshmukh while the popular musical event IIFA Rocks will be hosted by Ayushmann Khurrana and Kartik Aaryan. This year, IIFA will collaborate with UN Environment to launch a campaign ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, to be presided by Dia Mirza.
