Iran cuts rail freight tar­iffs

Iran Rail­ways has re­duced tar­iffs for cargo by 50 per cent in or­der to in­crease cargo to In­stc-ex­press Cor­ri­dor from In­dia to Rus­sia. A 5-way MOU has been re­cently inked be­tween Iran, Azer­bai­jan, Rus­sia, Ukraine and Poland for trans­porta­tion on the route. Dry runs con­ducted from Mumbai to Baku via Ban­dar Ab­bas and from Mumbai to As­trakhan via Ban­dar Ab­bas, Tehran and Ban­dar An­zali re­vealed that trans­port costs were re­duced by $2,500 per 15 tonnes of cargo.
