ICD at Ashuganj planned
The Bangladesh government plans to develop an inland container terminal at Ashuganj Port for facilitating transhipment of goods with India through waterways. The aim of the terminal is to help Indian containers and cargo vessels move from one place to the other using Bangladeshi waterways under the Inland Water Transit and Trade Protocol between India and Bangladesh. Ashuganj has been nominated as a ‘Port of Call’ under the said protocol. Construction of the terminal is expected to start in July 2018, with projected completion by December 2021. Volume of container traffic on this route is estimated at more than 400,000 teus.
