DU girl uploads video on social media; FIR has been lodged but no arrest so far

NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old Delhi University student has registered an FIR against a man for allegedly masturbati­ng while sitting beside her in a moving bus. The girl had shot a video of the whole incident and posted on social media. Police claimed that they have registered a case in this regard but no arrest has been made so far.

According to police, the incident was reported on February 7, when the girl was returning home from her college in Dhaula Kuan area. “She was coming by bus number 774 when the man who was sitting next to him started masturbati­ng, he even touched the waist of the victim,” police said. The complainan­t claimed that he was misbehavin­g with her but was shocked when she saw him unzipping his pants and masturbati­ng. The girl told Millennium

Post that she asked for help from other passengers but they did not care. “I was sitting in the bus and the person came and sat next behind me and he started doing the wrong things. I sough help from the other passengers but no one came forward it was shocking to me,” said the girl adding that the incident happened in moving bus near Munirika and the man got down at IIT Gate.

At the time of incidence, the girl made a video and later posted in on social media tagging political leaders like Chief Minister, Commission­er of Delhi Police. The girl wrote “I was coming from college in Delhi transporta­tion, the person sitting next to me started masturbati­ng. I tried telling people by screaming at this sick person but they ignored it as if it was something so normal.”

Three days after the incident, the girl decided to registered a case with the city police. She claimed that she had to sit for more than six hours after which her complaint was taken. Additional DCP (southwest) Monika Bhardwaj stated that after they got the complaint they registered an FIR under sections 354 A, 354 and 394 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). “We have started searching the accused but till now no arrest has been made,” said Monika Bhardwaj.

The DCW claimed that it assisted in lodging FIR in connection with sexual harassment of the DU student in a moving bus. DCW chief Swati Jai Hind stated, “I saw her shocking tweet and the act caught on video was too sick. I immediatel­y ensured registrati­on of her FIR. Worst is no one in bus came to her aid. This man is a danger to society and should be given strong punishment!”
