CVC grills CBI’S Alok Verma for second day
Asthana had alleged that he had documentary evidence of Verma accepting a ₹2 crorebribe from Sathish Sana, the main eyewitness in the case against meat exporter Moin Qureshi.
Officials aware of the development said that Asthana had submitted the evidence in support of the charges levelled by him against Verma.
CVC had also recently examined some CBI officials investigating crucial cases that figured in Asthana’s complaint of corruption against the director.
CBI personnel from the rank of inspector up to superintendent of police were called and their versions recorded before a senior CVC official, the people aware of the issue said.
The officials who had recorded their statements included those who had handled the Moin Qureshi bribery case, the IRCTC scam involving former Union railway minister Lalu Prasad, and the cattle smuggling case in which a senior Border Security Force officer was caught with unaccounted for cash in Kerala.
