Q My nine-month-old is having two naps a day, but his second nap is only short and then he’s getting over-tired. Should I go back to three?

In the short-term, help your little one catch up on his sleep with an extra ‘flash nap’ of 20-30 minutes in the afternoon. It doesn’t have to be in his cot – it can be in the car or in his buggy. This will bridge the gap before bedtime, so over-tiredness doesn’t cause him to wake in the night. Make sure that he’s awake again by 4.30pm at the latest, or he’ll struggle to settle at bedtime.
