The cross-cradle hold:
In this position, the mother sits with her back straight. A nursing pillow may be helpful during the early days to provide support to the baby and the mother’s arms. Now, place the baby on the mother’s lap such that the baby’s abdomen is aligned with the mother’s abdomen. The mother then supports the baby’s head, neck and shoulders in the cup of her palm and tucks baby lower body into the curve of her waist. Now, she needs to support her breast with a C hold with her outer free hand and guides her baby’s lower chin to touch her breast and encourage her baby to open his jaw wide and take a deep latch.
