Five Na­tional Awards for mer­i­to­ri­ous per­for­mance to NTPC

Five sta­tions of NTPC re­ceived Na­tional Awards for mer­i­to­ri­ous per­for­mance in the power sec­tor for 2013-14. Dadri Gas (840 MW) re­ceived the Sil­ver Award, Korba (2600 MW) and Ra­m­a­gun­dam (2600 MW) re­ceived the Bronze Award, Vind­hy­achal (4260 MW) and Anta (419 MW) re­ceived the cer­tifi­cate of merit. These awards for ef­fi­ciency and per­for­mance in the sec­tor were pre­sented by Piyush Goyal, Min­is­ter of State (In­de­pen­dent Charge) for Power, Coal and New and Re­new­able Energy in New Delhi. The present in­stalled ca­pac­ity of NTPC is 44,598 ( in­clud­ing 6196 MW through JVs) com­pris­ing 40 power sta­tions - 17 coal based, 7 com­bined cy­cle gas/liq­uid fuel, 1 hy­dro, 7 joint ven­ture sta­tions (six coal-based and one gas-based) and 8 RE projects. Dur­ing FY 2014-15, all coal sta­tions of NTPC achieved de­clared ca­pac­ity of above 83%. NTPC’s coal sta­tions achieved a PLF of 80.23% as against the na­tional PLF of 64.46%. In a re­lated de­vel­op­ment, the com­pany is restruc­tur­ing many of its di­vi­sions, the first such re­mod­elling since its in­cep­tion and merg­ing ex­ist­ing units and cre­at­ing new ones. Also it has em­barked on a near Rs 1,000 crore re­search and de­vel­op­ment ex­er­cise that will in­volve ground-break­ing work in ar­eas of new and re­new­able energy, waste man­age­ment, ef­fi­ciency im­prove­ment and cost re­duc­tion.
