Azure’s so­lar pro­ject to power Indo-Pak bor­der

Azure Power has com­mis­sioned a 5 MW ca­pac­ity so­lar plant in Sarkar­i­tala, Ra­jasthan, to elec­trify the bor­der posts around the re­gion. The com­pany signed a power pur­chase agree­ment with So­lar En­ergy Cor­po­ra­tion of In­dia, the des­ig­nated agency for im­ple­men­ta­tion of so­lar PV projects for the so­lar­i­sa­tion of Indo-Pak bor­ders, to sup­ply power for 25 years. With this pro­ject, the com­pany be­comes the first pri­vate so­lar power pro­ducer in the coun­try to sup­ply power to bor­der out­posts through the so­lar route un­der the JNNSM pol­icy. The govt can save crores of ru­pees spent ev­ery year on power and diesel used in gen­er­a­tors with this free en­ergy.

Con­sid­er­ing the pro­ject’s com­plex­ity, it was de­liv­ered in a com­mend­able time frame of two months.
