UEM, a Toshiba Group com­pany, wins Rs 132.6 crore EPC con­tract

UEM, a wa­ter ser­vices com­pany of Toshiba Group in In­dia, an­nounced win­ning an engi­neer­ing, pro­cure­ment and con­struc­tion con­tract (EPC) to sup­ply a com­pre­hen­sive sew­er­age sys­tem in Sahib­ganj in the east­ern In­dian state of Jhark­hand. The con­tract en­com­passes the con­struc­tion of two sewage treat­ment plants (STP) based on se­quenc­ing batch re­ac­tor tech­nol­ogy (SBR), with 5- and 7-mil­lion litre per day ca­pac­i­ties, along with a 55 km sew­er­age net­work and seven pump­ing sta­tions. It also cov­ers 10 years of op­er­a­tion and main­te­nance ser­vices (O&M), and has a to­tal value of Rs 132.6 crore. UEM re­ceived the con­tract from Jhark­hand Ur­ban In­fras­truc­ture De­vel­op­ment Com­pany (JUIDCO). Koichi Mat­sui, Chair­per­son and MD, UEM said, “The Sahib­ganj con­tract is a tes­ti­mony to our ex­per­tise in com­mis­sion­ing sim­i­lar projects and man­ag­ing the tech­nol­ogy and fund­ing struc­ture, and re­in­forces our al­ready strong record for de­liv­er­ing cost­ef­fec­tive so­lu­tions for waste-wa­ter man­age­ment.”
