An ESCO is a con­sul­tancy group that en­gages in a per­for­mance based con­tract with a client firm to im­ple­ment mea­sures which re­duce en­ergy con­sump­tion and costs in a tech­ni­cally and fi­nan­cially vi­able man­ner. So, the pri­mary func­tions of an ESCO is to per­form in-depth anal­y­sis of en­ergy re­quire­ment of phys­i­cal prop­er­ties, de­sign and im­ple­men­ta­tion of en­ergy ef­fi­cient so­lu­tions, and main­te­nance of the sys­tems to en­sure en­ergy sav­ings.
