“India is poised for huge solar growth”
Power Minister Piyush Goyal said, “The 100 GW target for solar should not be a constraint and India won’t stop at 100 GW. With the advent of new technology in storage, we are poised for huge growth. Solar growth will support landowners to derive income and solar industry to build their business.”
He said that India should manufacture in India for India and assess what it would take for the country to be an end-to-end solutions provider for solar energy. He said, “We can manufacture at scale. A subsidy regime is not the best way to move forward. We need to draw up a regime where the government can be an enabler for manufacturing to compete at good quality and prices. We need to foster partnerships with high quality technology suppliers. We will provide large tracts of land to manufacture at scale. Indian developers should also promote Indian manufacturing.”
Solar to power borewells
In a related RE development, after a pilot project in Khammam district was successfully implemented and 90 solar-powered pump-sets were commissioned on a pilot basis, Telangana is now all set to replace thousands of conventional agricultural pumpsets with solar-powered ones. In this regard, the State has also received funds from MNRE to install 4,223 pump-sets in different parts of the State in the first phase. The pumpsets that were set up on an experimental basis have proved efficient in drawing ground water from depths of over 200 feet.
