Preserving Past Glory
Mr Rudrangshu Mukherjee’s contention [Good Reading, August] in his book that Mangal Pandey had nothing to do with the Uprising of 1857 is interesting. There are several other such theories too. While it is hard to fully verify or to disprove them, we should respect the heroic versions even if only to rekindle dwindling patriotism. Contrarian ideas are fine but let’s consider past glory too.
