The real estate sector on the path to becoming a regularized sector, has seen the strength of RERA in states like Maharashtra, where the RERA body has become a conciliator between the builders and the buyers and the slackened progress in some other states like Haryana where it is still to take off even after one year. The strong actions by the judiciary to try and find solutions to developer’s financial crisis as in the case of JP Infrastructure are also a welcome change. What’s worrisome for Mumbai is the controversial Mumbai Development Plan 2034 provisions, of transit oriented development and construction on salt pan and mangroves land that if implemented indiscriminately can choke the city. The DP seems more inclined towards developer’s interest than the city’s interest & wellbeing. While we discuss all these and more topics in this issue, we will also be taking forward such important discussions in our events. The forthcoming “Realty Plus Conclave & Excellence Awards, 2018 – Gujarat” to be held in Ahmedabad in June will present a Smart City Conclave with the renowned professionals of Gujarat sharing their critical view and opinions on the subject.
