KIOCL Lim­ited, a pioneer or­ga­ni­za­tion in the Pel­let man­u­fac­tur­ing in­dus­try and hav­ing over three decades of ex­pe­ri­ence in Own­ing, Op­er­at­ing, Main­tain­ing and Controlling (of the Process Pa­ram­e­ters) of the Iron ore ben­e­fi­ci­a­tion plant of ca­pac­ity of 7.5 MTPA and Iron Ox­ide Pel­let Plant of ca­pac­ity of 3.5 MTPA.

In view of the grim sce­nario of steel as well as min­ing sec­tor, there has been a set back for KIOCL and has been sail­ing on a rough phase for the last decade with­out cap­tive mines. At this junc­ture, it was felt by the Man­age­ment to work out a strate­gic plan for bet­ter uti­liza­tion of ex­ist­ing ex­pe­ri­enced man­power and re­align in core ac­tiv­i­ties other than com­pany’s own plant. Hith­erto, with such an ar­range­ment, KIOCL started sign­ing MOU with var­i­ous com­pa­nies keep­ing in view of the ben­e­fit of ef­fec­tive uti­liza­tion of man­power as well as adding rev­enue to the com­pany. Some of the O & M projects that KIOCL have signed and are in the off­ing are il­lus­trated be­low:

NMDC and KIOCL en­tered into agree­ment for “Op­er­a­tion & Main­te­nance Con­tract of Ben­e­fi­ci­a­tion and Pel­let Plants at Don­i­malai, Bel­lary Dist., Kar­nataka State”. The pe­riod of con­tract is for a pe­riod of 03 years and ex­tend­able for fur­ther pe­ri­ods on mu­tual agree­able terms. KIOCL has also of­fered to ex­tend post con­tract ser­vices for a pe­riod of 12 months to NMDC. Dur­ing the cur­rency of the agree­ment, KIOCL will also train NMDC per­son­nel to op­er­ate plants.

KIOCL has un­der­taken the an­nual “Op­er­a­tion & Main­te­nance of Coke han­dling sys­tem (crusher con­vey­ors)” at MRPL, Man­ga­lore. The O&M work is for coke crusher, belt con­vey­ors, shut­tle con­vey­ors, silo and hot vul­can­iz­ing and other as­so­ci­ated jobs. The pe­riod of con­tract to be ex­e­cuted is for one year and which has com­menced from Oct 2014. Around 55 employees in­clud­ing few ex­ec­u­tives be­ing de­ployed for the project to un­der­take the said

O&M work for coke crusher, belt con­vey­ors, shut­tle con­vey­ors, silo and hot vul­can­iz­ing and other as­so­ci­ated jobs.

KIOCL has also un­der­taken “Op­er­a­tion and Main­te­nance Con­tract for Chromite Ore Ben­e­fi­ci­a­tion plant at Kali­pani” of M/s Odisha Min­ing Cor­po­ra­tion for O&M of 1.40 lakh tonnes of pro­duc­tion per an­num . Ini­tially the pe­riod of con­tract is for 03 years and ex­tend­able for an­other 02 years. How­ever, KIOCL has de­ployed 23 employees in­clud­ing 06 ex­ec­u­tives apart from en­gag­ing 90 lo­cal con­tact labours.


KIOCL has en­tered into an MOU with Min­eral Ex­plo­ration Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­ited (MECL) on 07th July 2015 at Ban­ga­lore in the au­gust pres­ence of Shri. Naren­dra Singh To­mar, Union Min­is­ter for Steel and Mines. The MOU is for uti­liz­ing the core com­pe­tency of both the or­ga­ni­za­tion in the field of Min­ing and ex­plo­ration of var­i­ous min­er­als that was signed by Malay Chat­ter­jee, CMD, KIOCL and Dr. Gopal Dhawan, CMD, MECL. The pur­pose of this agree­ment will jointly de­ploy their Min­ing and Min­eral Ex­plo­ration ex­perts to un­der­take min­ing and de­tailed ex­plo­ration of min­er­als from var­i­ous states of coun­try. It is learnt that only 1 % of min­eral bear­ing area of the coun­try is been ex­plored and about 8 lakh sq. km of min­er­al­ized area re­quires de­tailed ex­plo­ration to iden­tify the ore re­serves and their in­trin­sic val­ues.

Con­sid­er­ing the ur­gent need for ex­ten­sive min­eral ex­plo­ration works in near fu­ture, KIOCL and MECL made this ar­range­ment for uti­liz­ing both the or­ga­ni­za­tions tech­ni­cal ex­per­tise to carry out re­gional and de­tailed ex­plo­ration. With this MOU, both the or­ga­ni­za­tion are hav­ing the ob­jec­tive of un­der­tak­ing ex­plo­ration works on be­half of Na­tional Min­eral Ex­plo­ration Trust (NMET) Rules 2015. KIOCL shall be ben­e­fit­ted with this agree­ment as MECL is a premier ex­plo­ration agency and is en­gaged in min­eral ex­plo­ration and al­lied works for es­tab­lish­ing re­serves of var­i­ous min­er­als and their even­tual ex­ploita­tion.


The project “Green Nur­tur­ing” in schools was con­ceived by the Kar­nataka State Pol­lu­tion board and is be­ing im­ple­mented through­out Kar­nataka state in as­so­ci­a­tion with In­dus­tries. KIOCL at Man­galuru has con­ducted classes for the stu­dents to en­hance their knowl­edge on en­vi­ron­men­tal aware­ness, the im­por­tance of en­ergy con­ser­va­tion, re­cy­cling, rain­wa­ter har­vest­ing, garbage man­age­ment, etc. and in­for­ma­tive posters were dis­trib­uted con­cern­ing wa­ter con­ser­va­tion, pol­lu­tion preven­tion and per­sonal hy­giene. Gar­den­ing tool kits were pro­vided to the schools for ac­tive in­volve­ment of chil­dren in the “Project Green Nur­tur­ing”. KIOCL was re­cently pre­sented with En­vi­ron­ment award for im­ple­men­ta­tion of “Green Nur­tur­ing Pro­gramme” by Shri Ra­manatha Rai, Hon’ble Min­is­ter for For­est, Ecol­ogy & En­vi­ron­ment, Govt. of Kar­nataka to Shri Bo­braj Je­ha­yaran, GM, KIOCL. The func­tion was jointly or­ga­nized by Kar­nataka State Pol­lu­tion Con­trol Board and Dis­trict Ad­min­is­tra­tion, Man­galuru.
