KIOCL PLANS O&M PORTAL FOR BETTER UTILIZATION OF MANPOWER
KIOCL Limited, a pioneer organization in the Pellet manufacturing industry and having over three decades of experience in Owning, Operating, Maintaining and Controlling (of the Process Parameters) of the Iron ore beneficiation plant of capacity of 7.5 MTPA and Iron Oxide Pellet Plant of capacity of 3.5 MTPA.
In view of the grim scenario of steel as well as mining sector, there has been a set back for KIOCL and has been sailing on a rough phase for the last decade without captive mines. At this juncture, it was felt by the Management to work out a strategic plan for better utilization of existing experienced manpower and realign in core activities other than company’s own plant. Hitherto, with such an arrangement, KIOCL started signing MOU with various companies keeping in view of the benefit of effective utilization of manpower as well as adding revenue to the company. Some of the O & M projects that KIOCL have signed and are in the offing are illustrated below:
NMDC and KIOCL entered into agreement for “Operation & Maintenance Contract of Beneficiation and Pellet Plants at Donimalai, Bellary Dist., Karnataka State”. The period of contract is for a period of 03 years and extendable for further periods on mutual agreeable terms. KIOCL has also offered to extend post contract services for a period of 12 months to NMDC. During the currency of the agreement, KIOCL will also train NMDC personnel to operate plants.
KIOCL has undertaken the annual “Operation & Maintenance of Coke handling system (crusher conveyors)” at MRPL, Mangalore. The O&M work is for coke crusher, belt conveyors, shuttle conveyors, silo and hot vulcanizing and other associated jobs. The period of contract to be executed is for one year and which has commenced from Oct 2014. Around 55 employees including few executives being deployed for the project to undertake the said
O&M work for coke crusher, belt conveyors, shuttle conveyors, silo and hot vulcanizing and other associated jobs.
KIOCL has also undertaken “Operation and Maintenance Contract for Chromite Ore Beneficiation plant at Kalipani” of M/s Odisha Mining Corporation for O&M of 1.40 lakh tonnes of production per annum . Initially the period of contract is for 03 years and extendable for another 02 years. However, KIOCL has deployed 23 employees including 06 executives apart from engaging 90 local contact labours.
KIOCL INKS MOU WITH MECL
KIOCL has entered into an MOU with Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL) on 07th July 2015 at Bangalore in the august presence of Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Steel and Mines. The MOU is for utilizing the core competency of both the organization in the field of Mining and exploration of various minerals that was signed by Malay Chatterjee, CMD, KIOCL and Dr. Gopal Dhawan, CMD, MECL. The purpose of this agreement will jointly deploy their Mining and Mineral Exploration experts to undertake mining and detailed exploration of minerals from various states of country. It is learnt that only 1 % of mineral bearing area of the country is been explored and about 8 lakh sq. km of mineralized area requires detailed exploration to identify the ore reserves and their intrinsic values.
Considering the urgent need for extensive mineral exploration works in near future, KIOCL and MECL made this arrangement for utilizing both the organizations technical expertise to carry out regional and detailed exploration. With this MOU, both the organization are having the objective of undertaking exploration works on behalf of National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) Rules 2015. KIOCL shall be benefitted with this agreement as MECL is a premier exploration agency and is engaged in mineral exploration and allied works for establishing reserves of various minerals and their eventual exploitation.
ENVIRONMENT AWARD TO KIOCL
The project “Green Nurturing” in schools was conceived by the Karnataka State Pollution board and is being implemented throughout Karnataka state in association with Industries. KIOCL at Mangaluru has conducted classes for the students to enhance their knowledge on environmental awareness, the importance of energy conservation, recycling, rainwater harvesting, garbage management, etc. and informative posters were distributed concerning water conservation, pollution prevention and personal hygiene. Gardening tool kits were provided to the schools for active involvement of children in the “Project Green Nurturing”. KIOCL was recently presented with Environment award for implementation of “Green Nurturing Programme” by Shri Ramanatha Rai, Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Govt. of Karnataka to Shri Bobraj Jehayaran, GM, KIOCL. The function was jointly organized by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and District Administration, Mangaluru.
