awwarah is the latest food destination in Kolkata. In Arabic Nawwarah means brilliant and dazzling. This Moroccan-themed restaurant literally lives up to its name.

The 1,500 sq. ft. restaurant is spread over three levels with varied zones – fine dining area, ice-cream parlour, bar-lounge, cafeteria and a hookah section. Owned by Sanjay Gupta of Om Ganpati Caterers, the restaurant serves exclusively vegetarian fare. The ground floor comprises of ice cream parlour and a fine dining joint; the first floor has a bar and lounge; the second floor has a cafe and hookah section.

The most opulent area is the fine dining area. Explaining the design concept interior designer Ankita Baid says, “The design of this area spells luxury and grandeur with massive and intricate hand-carved ceilings, gold metal-clad wall coverings, solid wooden furniture, gold leafed chairs and mother-of-pearl tables.” The massive crystal chandeliers lends an opulent look. The fine dining ceiling is in solid wood carvings, with mirrored inlays.

For the ice cream parlour area, Ankita Baid has created a fresh and vibrant look with greenery and flowers clad on walls. She says, “The ice-cream parlour is calm and soothing in terms of colours, lot of greenery-clad walls and rainbow coloured lights lend rejuvenating feel.” Glass mosaic flooring and cluster of Moroccan lights on the ceiling, adds to the drama. A wooden bench seating lends an informal look of the ice cream parlour.
