There was a time when a chef’s profession was looked down upon, just as a hair stylist’s was. They would be condescendingly addressed as bawarchi and nai respectively. Well, with the success of people like Vikas Khanna, these mind sets are definitely changing. And, going by the number of people participating in reality cookery shows today, it is surely a positive change. Handsome and genial, Vikas Khanna is as much a favourite among food aficionados as he is with those looking at a career as chefs. He is an inspiration. A small town boy from a humble beginning going on to becoming a Michelin Star chef and setting up shop in America, while battling odds—this, as a story, is a complete winner. People relate to him and his struggles and are spurred on to prove themselves. That he is so good looking works as an added advantage for this talented chef to garner a bigger fan following. In the cover story, he talks about his culinary journey right from the start to the present day with a glimpse into the future. Enjoy and be motivated.

While on achieving what you really want, the story of Adi, later known as Aida Banaji, is no less stirring. It is all about finding your innate need and fulfilling it, no matter what the obstacles. Abdul Ghani and APS Shreethar have made the APJ Abdul Kalam memorial possible with their efforts—the perfect tribute to the people’s President. Sudhanshu Saria says love is love, whichever way you spell it or between whomever it happens, and has made the film Loev to prove it. We don’t know if Lady Diana really had a passionate affair with JFK Jr or not, but the rumour mill is working overtime on this one. We give you a detailed lowdown on this bit of gossip. Designer Abhishek Dutta is teaching prisoners how to make designer clothes and even had a fashion show for their creations. A great initiative, indeed! Oh yes, if you are planning your next vacation, keep the pristine Palampur in mind. More info about the place inside.

All this and much more in this issue of Society. Have a good read! Cheers!
