Top Fashion Moments at LFW

Society - - PRIVILEGED INFORMATION -

FROM blinding alleys of the runway festooned with dominant and submissive colours, moods moodier than the mood swings of a Cancerian, the Lakme Fashion Week unfurled an avalanche of trends to be absorbed in the streets. As usual, the trends surprised, shocked and disappointed us. Here are some of the moments worth talking about. They represent fashion trends in the micro context and cultural retractions in the macro context. Let’s begin the show…

CONSULTING ASTROLOGICAL CHARTS

Astrology played a major role for embroidery, as shooting stars and golden sunrays appeared on silk crêpe drawstring dresses and cropped denim jackets for Manish Arora’s Cosmic Love. Intergalactic goals, anyone?

LUXE PATCHWORK

Falguni and Shane Peacock’s Cassiopeia fused the depth of glossy shimmer to the melancholy of muted tones. The result was a couture gown millennials would approve.

LIGHTS WILL GUIDE YOU HOME

Dia Mirza, showstopper for designer Kusum and Karishma Luharuwalla, looked ethereal in an off-white bridal lehenga with beautiful embroidery. The moody, moonlit florals in dusty shades of ash rose and blush, slate grey and olive green showcased the lighter side of the day.

THE ALPHA(bet) LADY

Inspired by the legends of the Greek and Roman goddesses Aphrodite, Hera, Gaia, Artemis and Athena, Nachiket Barve’s collection extensively used Greek fonts to embroider reaffirmations on garments with words such as ;love, dreamer, bride and goddess.

THE DAINTY ROCK STAR

Designer Ritu Kumar sent down an army of dainty rock stars led by Disha Patani looking stunning in a corset bodice dress with an asymmetric hem.

TRIPPY DRESSING

Who needs narcotics when you can get high from fashion? For Manish Arora’s show, Ranveer Singh unleashed a quirk blitzkrieg in his sequined rainbow jacket. Talk about happy, shiny dressing.
