Diamond enthusiasts, hobbyists and connoisseurs had an exciting opportunity to learn more about the cherished stone—including the qualities that add to its value and jewellery-buying tips—from one of the world’s leading experts in gem and jewellery education. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) conducted a five-day practical programme on diamonds in Hyderabad beginning from July 11.

Students in GIA’s Diamond Grading Lab class worked with real diamonds and professional gemmological instruments to uncover the fascinating world inside these gems. The class taught both technical and practical ways to observe and evaluate diamond quality, and the basics of the famous GIA-created 4Cs (colour, clarity, cut and carat weight) to grade diamonds. Students also learnt how the 4Cs can affect value and the ways in which diamond treatments can affect the appearance of a stone.

Taught by experienced and qualified GIA instructors, the course is ideal for jewellery enthusiasts, connoisseurs, students and working professionals interested in diamonds.

GIA, the global leader in gem and jewellery education, also offers courses in diamonds, coloured stones and pearls. There are specialised training programmes in merchandising, jewellery design, retail and more. The institute conducts courses in cities throughout India, including Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, etc. Regular corporate seminars on jewellery-related topics are held across 60 cities in India.
