GJEPC Salutes CISF For Nabbing IIJS Diamond Thieves
The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) felicitated the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for its efforts in arresting two Chinese nationals who stole diamonds at the recently held India International Jewellery Show (IIJS). The two Chinese nationals were arrested the same day at the Mumbai airport, while trying to flee from India.
GJEPC chairman Praveenshankar Pandya applauded CISF senior commandant Himanshu Pandey and CISF deputy commandant A.K. Nag for nabbing the two thieves for allegedly stealing diamonds worth R34 lakh.
Addressing the gathering at the felicitation ceremony on August 18th, Pandya noted that the GJEPC has been facing several challenges, including ‘entry’ and ‘exit’ of dignitaries at the event, which attracts around 5,000 to 6,000 visitors per day. “While we rely on CISF on security, our officials need to work harder to improve various facilities at the five-day exhibition and bring it at par with global standards,” he added.
Pandya noted that the GJEPC was pleased to be associated with CISF, a national security organisation that is methodical and professional in its approach.
Speaking at the event, Pandey said, “It has been an honour for CISF to be associated with IIJS, one of the world’s most respected jewellery trade shows, for the past 10 years. Over the years, with the help of technology, surveillance levels have been improved drastically.”
Commenting about the theft incident at IIJS 2017, he added, “There was multilevel co-ordination with various agencies and I congratulate GJEPC’s CCTV surveillance team and the Mumbai Police for their support in arresting the two Chinese culprits at the Mumbai airport.”
