MSMEs Should Take E-com­merce Path To Suc­cess: Re­port

ems and jewellery has been named as one of the most promis­ing sec­tors for re­tail e-com­merce ex­ports from In­dia, ac­cord­ing to a re­cent study on the Mi­cro, Small and Medium En­ter­prises (MSMEs) sec­tor pre­pared by FICCI, In­dian In­sti­tute of For­eign Trade (IIFT) Cen­tre for MSME Stud­ies, and Apex Clus­ter De­vel­op­ment Ser­vices.

The study, ti­tled ‘Ex­plor­ing Po­ten­tial of E-Com­merce for Re­tail Ex­ports of In­dian MSMEs in Man­u­fac­tur­ing Sec­tor’, high­lights the need for MSMEs to in­crease their pres­ence in in­ter­na­tional mar­ket­places us­ing B2C ex­ports as a ma­jor tool. It cov­ers in de­tail the cur­rent sta­tus, missed op­por­tu­ni­ties, and sug­gests pol­icy changes re­quired to make B2C e-com­merce a smooth and at­trac­tive op­tion for ex­ports by MSMEs.

The study em­pha­sises cre­at­ing syn­er­gies with nu­mer­ous ex­port pro­mo­tion pro­grammes and schemes by the gov­ern­ment and agen­cies. It also high­lights pol­icy rec­om­men­da­tions to­wards in­te­grat­ing ‘Make in In­dia’ and ‘Dig­i­tal In­dia’, which will en­able mar­ket di­ver­si­fi­ca­tion and ac­cess to new ge­ogra­phies for the In­dian MSMEs.
