MSMEs Should Take E-commerce Path To Success: Report
ems and jewellery has been named as one of the most promising sectors for retail e-commerce exports from India, according to a recent study on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector prepared by FICCI, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Centre for MSME Studies, and Apex Cluster Development Services.
The study, titled ‘Exploring Potential of E-Commerce for Retail Exports of Indian MSMEs in Manufacturing Sector’, highlights the need for MSMEs to increase their presence in international marketplaces using B2C exports as a major tool. It covers in detail the current status, missed opportunities, and suggests policy changes required to make B2C e-commerce a smooth and attractive option for exports by MSMEs.
The study emphasises creating synergies with numerous export promotion programmes and schemes by the government and agencies. It also highlights policy recommendations towards integrating ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’, which will enable market diversification and access to new geographies for the Indian MSMEs.
