Sameer impresses in Hyderabad Open
Sameer Verma of India served another reminder of his growing reputation with an impressive 2115, 211■ win over Malaysian Soong Joo Ven in a 37minute men’s singles final of the Hyderabad Open badminton championship at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
Sameer didn’t disappoint the sparse crowd and the way he pushed the opponent to the baseline to dictate terms was a treat to watch.
Earlier, the topseeded men’s doubles combination of R. Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty outslugged the thirdseeded Indonesian pair of Akbar Bintang Cahyono and Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani for a 2116, 2114 win.
However, the premier mixed doubles combination of Pranaav J. Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy, which showed great grit and determination in the final moments saving three match points from the Indonesian combine of Cayhono and Winny Oktavina Kandow, faltered in the dying moments of the match.
In the women’s singles final, Kim Ga Eun of South Korea shocked fourthseeded Deng Joy Xuan of Hong Kong 219, 1■21, 2117 in a 52minute final.
