Sameer im­presses in Hy­der­abad Open

Sameer Verma of In­dia served an­other re­minder of his grow­ing rep­u­ta­tion with an im­pres­sive 21­15, 21­1■ win over Malaysian Soong Joo Ven in a 37­minute men’s sin­gles fi­nal of the Hy­der­abad Open bad­minton cham­pi­onship at the Gachi­bowli In­door Sta­dium.

Sameer didn’t dis­ap­point the sparse crowd and the way he pushed the op­po­nent to the base­line to dic­tate terms was a treat to watch.

Ear­lier, the top­seeded men’s dou­bles com­bi­na­tion of R. Satwik­sairaj and Chi­rag Shetty out­slugged the third­seeded In­done­sian pair of Ak­bar Bin­tang Cahy­ono and Muham­mad Reza Pahlevi Is­fa­hani for a 21­16, 21­14 win.

How­ever, the premier mixed dou­bles com­bi­na­tion of Pranaav J. Cho­pra and N. Sikki Reddy, which showed great grit and de­ter­mi­na­tion in the fi­nal mo­ments sav­ing three match points from the In­done­sian com­bine of Cay­hono and Winny Ok­tavina Kandow, fal­tered in the dy­ing mo­ments of the match.

In the women’s sin­gles fi­nal, Kim Ga Eun of South Korea shocked fourth­seeded Deng Joy Xuan of Hong Kong 21­9, 1■­21, 21­17 in a 52­minute fi­nal.
