GEN­ERAL DY­NAM­ICS CHO­SEN FOR ABRAMS MAIN BAT­TLE TANK UP­GRADES

Gen­eral Dy­nam­ics Land Sys­tems has se­cured two con­tracts, worth a to­tal $581m, to up­grade Abrams main bat­tle tanks for the US Army. As part of the con­tracts, the Abrams tanks will be up­graded from M1A2 sys­tem en­hance­ment pack­age ver­sion 3 (SEPv3) to a SEPv4 vari­ant. The con­tracts cover de­sign, de­vel­op­ment and in­te­gra­tion of mul­ti­ple engi­neer­ing changes into Abrams tanks pro­duced at the Joint Sys­tems Man­u­fac­tur­ing Cen­ter in Lima, Ohio, US.

Un­der the first con­tract worth $311m, the tanks will re­ceive SEPv4 up­grades, in­clud­ing com­man­der’s pri­mary sight, an im­proved gun­ner’s pri­mary sight and im­prove­ments to sen­sors. A to­tal of seven pro­to­type M1A2 SEPv4 tanks will be de­liv­ered to the army by Gen­eral Dy­nam­ics Land Sys­tems.
