SP's LandForces - - NEWS IN BRIEF -

The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has taken delivery of the initial batch of 50 missiles and 20 firing posts from the new MMP land combat missile system for France’s Armed Forces. MBDA has the built the MMP system under a contract awarded in 2013 to replace the Milan, the HOT missiles mounted on VAB Armoured Fighting Vehicles and ERYX missiles. Expected to become operational in 2018, the MMP system will be used by French Army infantry and cavalry units, as well as special forces of the navy and airforce to train future troops.

MBDA’s MMP with ‘fire-and-forget’ and ‘man-in-the-loop’ capabilities allows users to hit fixed or mobile targets such as vehicles, armour, infrastructures, and personnel while minimising the risk of collateral damage. The system has a strike range of more than 4,000m and can be fired by dismounted infantrymen from confined spaces. It can be fitted on the EBRC Jaguar armoured reconnaissance and combat vehicle, which is expected to be delivered to the French Army in 2020.

The DGA will acquire a total of 400 firing posts and 1,750 missiles by 2025.
