India, on December 5, successfully test fired indigenously developed medium range surface to air missile Akash with indigenous radio frequency seeker against an aerial target at the Chandipur test range.
The missile was launched against an unmanned aerial target drone ‘Banshee’ from the Launch Complex-III at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha.
The launch operations were witnessed by Director General (Missiles), DRDO and Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri (SA to RM) Dr G. Satheesh Reddy and senior missile scientists of DRDO.
Akash is being inducted into Army as Short Range Surface to Air Missile (SRSAM). With this success, India has achieved the capability of making any type of Surface to Air Missile.
