In­dia, on De­cem­ber 5, suc­cess­fully test fired in­dige­nously de­vel­oped medium range sur­face to air mis­sile Akash with in­dige­nous ra­dio fre­quency seeker against an aerial tar­get at the Chandipur test range.

The mis­sile was launched against an un­manned aerial tar­get drone ‘Ban­shee’ from the Launch Com­plex-III at In­te­grated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha.

The launch op­er­a­tions were wit­nessed by Di­rec­tor Gen­eral (Mis­siles), DRDO and Sci­en­tific Ad­viser to Rak­sha Mantri (SA to RM) Dr G. Satheesh Reddy and se­nior mis­sile sci­en­tists of DRDO.

Akash is be­ing in­ducted into Army as Short Range Sur­face to Air Mis­sile (SRSAM). With this suc­cess, In­dia has achieved the ca­pa­bil­ity of mak­ing any type of Sur­face to Air Mis­sile.
