TATA MO­TORS DE­LIV­ERS SA­FARI STORME SUVS TO IN­DIAN ARMY

Tata Mo­tors has re­port­edly be­gun de­liv­er­ing Sa­fari Storme ve­hi­cles to the In­dian Army. On April 27, 2017, Tata Mo­tors an­nounced a con­tract for the sup­ply of 3,192 units of the Tata Sa­fari Storme 4x4 ve­hi­cle to the In­dian Armed Forces. The de­liv­ery of the ve­hi­cles will be car­ried out in a phased man­ner for both for the In­dian Army and the In­dian Navy.

Prior to its se­lec­tion un­der a new cat­e­gory of ve­hi­cles – GS800 (Gen­eral Ser­vice 800), the Tata Sa­fari Storme 4x4 was put through 15 months of test­ing in dif­fer­ent ter­rains across the coun­try. The three re­quire­ments were a min­i­mum pay­load ca­pac­ity of 800kg; hard roofs, and air con­di­tion­ing. The ve­hi­cle, which will serve as a re­place­ment to the Maruti Gypsy in the 4x4 light ve­hi­cle cat­e­gory, met three ba­sic crite- ria stated in the Re­quest for Pro­posal floated by the In­dian Min­istry of De­fence (MoD). The three re­quire­ments were a min­i­mum pay­load ca­pac­ity of 800kg; hard roofs, and air con­di­tion­ing.

Fea­tur­ing elec­tronic shift-on-fly tech­nol­ogy and a horse­power of 156bhp and 400Nm torque, Sa­fari Storme pro­vides easy driv­abil­ity, swifter re­sponse and lower noise, vi­bra­tion, and harsh­ness. It also offers su­pe­rior fuel ef­fi­ciency and ground clear­ance of 200mm, ac­cord­ing to Tata Mo­tors.

The Tata Sa­fari Storme 4x4 ve­hi­cle is a mod­i­fied ver­sion of a vari­ant de­signed for civil­ians. It has been up­graded with an up­dated drive train and mod­i­fied sus­pen­sion.
