Prithvi-ii suc­cess­fully test-fired

The Strate­gic Forces Com­mand has suc­cess­fully test-fired the sur­face-to-sur­face Prithvi-II mis­sile from Chandipur in Odisha’s Bala­sore dis­trict on Au­gust 25. The mis­sile with a strike range of 350 km lifted off from a road-mo­bile launcher at 11.04 a.m. Prithvi-II, a sin­gle-stage mis­sile us­ing liq­uid pro­pel­lants, can carry a 500-kg war­head and is meant for deep in­ter­dic­tion.

Born on Au­gust 10, 1954, Vice Ad­mi­ral Sinha was com­mis­sioned on June 1, 1974, in the Ex­ec­u­tive Branch of the In­dian Navy as a fighter pi­lot. He has served in a va­ri­ety of com­mand, staff and in­struc­tional ap­point­ments. Vice Ad­mi­ral Sinha, a qual­i­fied fly­ing in­struc­tor, has over 2,700 hours of fly­ing on 18 dif­fer­ent types of air­craft.

Ad­mi­ral Sinha has held a wide ar­ray of ap­point­ments such as Flag Of­fi­cer Naval Avi­a­tion (FONA), As­sis­tant Chief of Naval Staff Air [ACNS(Air)], the Flag Of­fi­cer Com­mand­ing Western Fleet (FOCWF) and Con­troller Per­son­nel Ser­vices (CPS) be­fore tak­ing over as the Chief of In­te­grated De­fence Staff to Chair­man, Chiefs of Staff Com­mit­tee (CISC).

He is an alum­nus of the De­fence Ser­vices Staff Col­lege, the Col­lege of Naval War­fare, Mum­bai and the Na­tional De­fence Col­lege, New Delhi. He is a re­cip­i­ent of PVSM, AVSM, NM and Bar and he is one of the Hon­orary ADCs of the Supreme Com­man­der.

Vice Ad­mi­ral S.P.S. Cheema has taken over as Chief of In­te­grated De­fence Staff to Chair­man, Chiefs of Staff Com­mit­tee from Vice Ad­mi­ral Sinha.
